Some notes for a Saturday afternoon.

I’m listening to the best song I’ve heard in a long, long time right now. Xiu Xiu’s “Rose of Sharon” from his La Forêt release. Absolutely amazing. Absolutely. For those of you who don’t know, Xiu Xiu is a post-punk outfit consisting of – I believe – just one guy. But the music defies description: you’d have to hear it for yourself. “Rose of Sharon” is one of his less obtuse songs, but opens with droning strings and haunting lead vocals. It’s about as close to emo as he’s ever going to get, I think; the whole release is worth buying, if you have the money and don’t already want to stone to death for comparing Xiu Xie and emo.

Also, I’m listening to Pelican right now. Post-metal? Post-krautrock? Who knows. But it moves me, and right now, I’m begging to be moved.

Edit: And for those of you who feel like getting into some postrock, may I suggest Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Fly Pan Am, Mono, Dirty Three, Silver Mt. Zion, Mum, and some M83.

Also, check out my user page ( for more insight into what sort of music I actually listen to. That is all.

  1. “Intresting”.. can’t say I appreciate it as much as you, I’m sure.

Disturbing album cover for, “A promise”.. ahh!

I haven’t been able to listen to the, “Rose of Sharon” song, but frik sake man, it’s a bit of scary music of what I’ve heard. And I’d like to think I have a broad range of taste for music and the arts.

But.. no.. I wouldn’t say that I’d buy the album if someone PAID me to.

  2. hmm… well i listened to rose of sharon… oh ya, it moved me… not in a good way.

but i’m glad you like it… maybe i just have bad taste, but i’m thinking i’m just in the complete wrong mood for it right now.
